World Mental Health Day

Today is a good day to prioritize self-care activities that support emotional well-being and reduce stress. Simple actions like the following play a vital role in supporting mental health:

  • Get enough sleep. Sleep is foundational to your overall well-being. Try creating a calming evening routine to let your body know that it’s time for sleep.

  • Move your body. Even just a casual walk or stretching can release those feel-good endorphins and improve your mood. Start with short distances, then work up to longer as you being to feel better!

  • Connect with loved ones. Social support is absolutely essential. Reach out to a friend or family member, join a group or just spend time in conversation with someone you trust and enjoy.

  • Practice gratitude and journaling. Write down what you’re feeling or you’re thankful for. Journaling gives you a way to process emotions and can boost self-awareness by helping manage stress and anxiety.

  • Mindful breathing. Try deep-breathing exercises – inhale for four counts, hold for four counts, exhale for six counts. This actually does calm the nervous system and eases anxiety. Try it!

  • Take breaks from social media. Limit your screen time, unfollow negative accounts, spend time doing something enjoyable. Break the scroll!

  • Spend time in nature. Gardening, hiking, taking a short stroll or even just being outside will help reduce anxiety and gives one a fresh perspective!

Self-care is about consistent, small actions. Whatever you choose, being gentle with yourself, enjoying the present moment and reaching out for support if needed all make a difference in your life!
